Virtual Bayview Bazaar Raises Funds for FareStart Amid Pandemic

Category: Community

Author: Bayview

Each year, a multitude of resident volunteers come together to organize Bayview’s annual Holiday Bazaar and all proceeds are given to a selected nonprofit organization. Past recipients include Mary’s Place, Medic One Foundation, Queen Anne Helpline, Operation Night Watch, and Queen Anne Food Bank. A global pandemic was not going to stop residents from continuing this tradition. With the combination of technology and creativity, residents were able to pull off a successful virtual Bazaar for the first time in Bayview’s history. Socially distant phone booths, a digital presentation of all the Bazaar items, and amazing resident and staff collaboration were on display.

Bayview’s 2020 Virtual Bazaar raised over $1,700.00 for FareStart’s Emergency Meal Program. FareStart transforms lives, disrupts poverty and nourishes communities through food, life skills and job training.

Bayview residents made fragrant sachets, delicious pesto, beautiful knit items, unique jewelry, Hyacinth bulbs, (in decorative pots & ready to bloom) and, holiday and Seahawk masks – the fashion ‘must-have’ of 2020 and beyond. A special thanks to our amazing culinary department for donating four Yule Log Cakes and four dozen cupcakes!! This was a collaboration of both residents and staff whose energy, creativity, and willingness to participate made this Bazaar a success.  A special thanks to Bazaar co-chairs and residents Maggie Rimmer and Mary Body.
